Vimeo Has Censored My Work
There were videos of my cabaret performances here for you to watch—but not anymore. Vimeo has terminated my account, as you can see below.
This is a blatant act of censorship, showing zero regard for context, nuance, or the nature of performance. It also sets a troubling precedent, highlighting the immense power these massive platforms wield over what content gets to exist. With vague and inconsistently enforced rules, they can decide what stays and what disappears—shaping what we see and how we engage with the world. This is scary times – smash the fucking system!
Shawn (Vimeo Trust & Safety)24 Oct 2024, 01:48 IST Hello Katy, Your account was terminated for violating Vimeo’s Terms of Service (https://vimeo.com/terms) and Community Guidelines (https://vimeo.com/help/guidelines). Vimeo does not allow videos that contain explicit depictions of nudity or sexual acts, nor do we allow videos that seem primarily focused on sexual stimulation. Note that “focused on sexual stimulation” is broader than “pornographic” or “explicit” and can even include non-graphic content like fetish gratification videos or videos with overtly sexualized depictions of nudity or activity. We are unable to restore accounts that have been terminated for this kind of violation. We wish you the best of luck in finding a hosting platform better suited to your needs. |
